Annual Celebration Honors Youth Achievements
SSS #110 Charles N. Curtis hosted their annual Bridge of Honor ceremony on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Mt. Tahoma high school. This annual ceremony is a very special occasion honoring Sea Scouts that have advanced in rank and earned special recognition through meritorious efforts or achievements.

During the year, Sea Scouts in the Curtis unit achieved many advancements in rank. This year there were ten scouts that met requirements to achieve an Apprentice rank. The next rank is Ordinary; which two Sea Scouts were awarded on Monday night. The rank of Able is next and was awarded to two Scouts. In the last year, 14 Sea Scouts advanced in rank by learning and demonstrating their seamanship and maritime skills aboard Curtis, a Coast Guard licensed sub-chapter T vessel.

Community leader and member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Alan Mandigo awarded two very distinct awards: Military Order of the World Wars and the SAR Bronze Star Good Citizenship Medal. Both were awarded to Jean-Pierre Bega and were the result of glowing recommendations.

The Curtis crew perform maintenance of the classic wooden vessel year round and participate in the annual haul out for inspection and repair. During the ceremony, Veterans of Foreign Wars was represented by Dolores Lopez who presented the ship with a grant to help fund this annual haul out and repairs.

The annual Bridge of Honor is a time to celebrate and recognize the hard work and achievements of the many youth that participate in Sea Scouts.
