Stem education at sea

WELCOME TO THE FLOATING CLASSROOM!

At the Youth Marine Foundation (YMF), we partner with schools, teachers, and families to provide students with a unique, hands-on educational experience aboard our 110-ft Class A vessel, the Doolin-Rogers. These excursions throughout the Puget Sound offer students an opportunity to engage directly with the environment and ecosystem, taking science out of the classroom and into real-world exploration.

Teachers can bring their own curriculum or choose from our accredited, STEM-based program designed around marine science, sailing, power boating, and adventure sports. YMF’s programs encourage active learning through adventure, fostering curiosity and deepening understanding of marine ecosystems.

Features and Benefits of Our Program:

  • Engaging Curriculum: Our program is designed for hands-on engagement, allowing students to explore, experiment, and innovate with the intent to spark creativity and collaboration in both students and teachers.

  • Authentic Life Skills: Throughout their journey, students gain valuable life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership, all while working together in a dynamic, real-world setting.

  • Stress-Free Implementation: YMF provides all materials and resources needed to seamlessly integrate our programs into your curriculum, along with dedicated support every step of the way to ensure a successful experience.

Sea Scouts

EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION ON LAND AND SEA.

The Sea Scouts program, a key initiative under the Boy Scouts of America, offers youth the chance to develop leadership skills both on land and at sea. Through a strong partnership with the Youth Marine Foundation, Sea Scouts receive the essential training and mentorship required for success. Under the guidance of highly skilled volunteers, licensed skippers and industry experts—many of whom hold their own multiple maritime licenses including Masters licenses with the Coast Guard—youth gain hands-on experience aboard training vessels. This valuable training equips them with sought-after maritime skills, leading to opportunities with the Ports of Tacoma and Seattle, the Coast Guard, and other branches of the armed forces, while the others become leaders in our community. Through these interconnected programs, we are shaping future leaders and making a lasting impact on the maritime and land base industry.
