 LEARN ABOUT US

Founded in 1992, Youth Marine Foundation (YMF) empowers youth through hands-on experiences on the water. We foster environmental responsibility, water stewardship, and a deep understanding of the critical role waterways play in science, sustainability, and community resilience.

Through partnerships with local schools and organizations, YMF offers transformative educational opportunities aboard our 110-foot, Class A training vessel, the Doolin-Rogers. Our “Floating Classroom” introduces middle and high school students to the marine ecosystems of Puget Sound, enhancing their appreciation for STEM and environmental science in real-world contexts.

In response to the growing maritime workforce shortage, YMF has expanded into workforce development, engaging young adults in immersive maritime training. Through our mentorship model with Sea Scouts Ship 110 and vessel-based instruction, we introduce students to high-demand maritime careers while helping to bridge the gap between education and employment. Our programs provide critical sea time, industry certifications, and leadership development that prepare young people for family-wage, purpose-driven jobs in a field urgently in need of new talent.

At YMF, we believe that by opening doors to the water, we open doors to opportunity — for individuals, for communities, and for Washington’s maritime future.
